Karen has been here 20 years this month.

December always gets crazy and people have insurance that expires at the end of the year. We must see these patients or they will go elsewhere. They provide a continuing patient source. In order to maximize the slots we have the doctors work extra hours. When patients call we can try to get them to come in now.

Ran the Lasik special in October with best discount of the year to leave more slots for the end of the year.

Optos fundus camera – cannot bill with a diagnosis of cataracts, it has to have retinal pathology. If you have questions ask the doctor. Diabetes without complications – cannot bill it with Medicare Advantage plans unless there is retinopathy. We should explain to the patient the Optos will go to the medical insurance.

We are going to institute a program with stickers at the front desk when patients want a Lasik evaluation. There will be a color sticker on the routing slip. Please do a Pentacam.

Please have respect for your co-workers and patients. Avoid inappropriate conversations in the office.

Renovations will begin next spring. All new displays in Optical, carpeting replaced and painting.

Technicians – if you don’t the know the answer to a patient’s question, ask someone.

Noticing an increase in perfume, body sprays and hair sprays. Be mindful as it can affect others adversely.

As we transition the seasons make sure you have the most up to date staff rosters with phone numbers.

Noted an increase in pre-certs not being sent to the correct place. Select PRE from drop down.

Doctors are getting an increase in messages with no name on them. Please make sure you put your name in the ToDos as well.

Optical, contacts and Lasik – in Solution Reach delete no more than 2 months on your right message screen.

Pod decoration contest starts right after Thanksgiving and Office decorating is Nov 28^th after work. Pizza and wine provided. Be creative with pods.

Lasik: Doing great. Will start advertising for Nov & Dec special on Oct 22^nd, $800 off ($400 off per eye).

Dr. C:  Good morning!

Very busy this summer – over 4300 patients seen last month. Thank you for doing a great job!

As you know the practice is based on many things from years ago. They told us “advanced eye care with a home-town touch” is up to us to make the patients feel at home and comfortable.

Equipment updated: Optos camera shows optomap of retina (wider area). Make sure we photograph all patients over 45 having a complete eye exam. Also patients who have flashes and floaters that are diabetic before seeing doctor.

Updated CustomVue with iDesign for Lasik. Everyone’s vision is a little bit different even if the prescription is same and with better data per individual’s eyes we can treat better. More updated information on cornea for better treatment. First practice with this updated technology.

Dry eye service – we now have BlephEx available. It is a device which deep cleans the eyelid margins for people with frequent blepharitis. We can take a picture of lids and show all stuff on lid and then clean with BlephEx and show how it’s better.

TrueTear, a drug-free and drop-free treatment device to make you produce more of your own tears. It stimulates the nerves in the nose and makes your tear glands produce more of your natural tears. The cost is $800 and disposal tips $50/month.

Would like to teach you all something. There are two true ocular emergencies. One is an alkaline burn when you get a strong base in your eye such as pool chemicals or concrete particles. They activate enzymes in your cornea to continue the burn and can melt your cornea. Treatment is to wash your eye out as soon as possible with whatever is available – any liquid the sooner the better. Central retinal artery occlusion is blockage in main artery to the eye. Probably have 45 minutes to treat. Treatment is massage or drops.

Open globe injury – have only treated 2 patients in these may years. Keep patient calm, if they strain everything in eye can blow out. If in the office, have them lie down and cover the eye with shield or cup until doctor arrives.

Dr. BS: Patient said she has been coming to this office for 8-9 years and has never seen anyone having a bad day.

Everyone has a mail folder in cabinet by Lauren’s desk by your last name. Watch for approved PTO forms and office memos.

Humana Gold HMO – patient must have referral before we see them or they are seen somewhere else.

Do you all know there is a CarlinVision intranet page? Policies,PTO forms, office notes, etc. are on there. Should be home page on all computers. If not, let Amy know.

Techs – once done working up patient make sure the slide show is playing. Any issues let John or Donna know.

With Botox we must document where it is injected and how much is wasted.

Review from a patient was very happy with her cataract surgery but didn’t know how to apply patch. Instruct patients.

Kim has resigned and Marlyn has taken over in back office.

Oculoplastics: Has been doing well this year. $600 off for cosmetic ($150 per lid) through September.

Megan H: Back office remember to clean instruments.

Cataracts: Doing well. Testing please confirm the date of birth with patients.

Optical: Doing well, no issues.
